Received the PACCAR Award for Excellence in Teaching, as selected by Foster MBAs, for his exhaustively prepared and extraordinarily inclusive learning experience. The Foster School’s preeminent faculty honor is the pinnacle of the annual Foster Awards

Won the Best Paper Award at the Review of Accounting Studies (RAST) Conference, received an Excellence in Refereeing Award from the Journal of Accounting Research, and was appointed editor of the Review of Accounting Studies.

Chair, Department of Accounting

Received the 2022 Seminal Contributions to Accounting Literature Award from the American Accounting Association for his classic 1997 paper documenting and explaining the corporate practice of earnings management to avoid reporting a decrease or loss in revenue.

Received the Helena Yli-Renko Research Impact Award from the Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at the University of Southern California for his 2016 Academy of Management Review paper—with Foster PhD Program alumni Greg Fisher (PhD 2012) and Amrita Lahiri (PhD 2016)—establishing the imperative of entrepreneurial ventures to address different criteria for legitimacy as they evolve, grow and seek resources from different audiences over time. Also received the Best Paper Award from the Strategic Management Society.

Kermit O. Hanson Professor in Accounting

Profiled as the accounting “legend” in the new book Seven Essentials for Business Success: Lessons from Legendary Professors. Also received the Best Paper Award at the 20201 American Accounting Association (AAA) Spark Conference, delivered the keynote on “Escape from the Ivory Tower” at the 2021 Journal of International Accounting Research (JIAR) Conference and named the Harry Lyman Hooker Distinguished Professor by McMaster University.

Named one of the “Top 50 Undergraduate Professors of 2022” by Poets & Quants for producing an extraordinary set of preparatory materials that prepare students in her Operations Management to contextualize concepts they learn, and then delivering them with authenticity and inclusion.

Research Director, Center for Sales and Marketing Strategy

Received a trio of prestigious awards for his seminal research on data privacy, including the Sheth Foundation/Journal of Marketing Award for his paper on the dark side of big data; the William R. Davidson Award for his paper on data privacy in retail; and the Leonard L. Berry Marketing Book Award (from the American Marketing Association) for The Intelligent Marketer’s guide to Data Privacy.

David Sirmon
Professor of Management
Robert Herbold Professor in Strategy

Won the Best Paper Award from the Academy of Management Review for his study, “Humans and agentic technologies: Toward a theory of conjoined agency in organizations,” co-authored with former Foster doctoral students Jen Rhymer (PhD 2020) and Alex Murray (PhD 2018). Rhymer is an assistant professor at the University College London School of Management and founder of Enspired Design Lab. Murray is an assistant professor of management at the University of Oregon Lundquist College of Business.

Yong Tan
Michael G. Foster Endowed Professor of Information Systems

Ranked #1 in the global index of most productive information systems researchers produced by the Association for Information Systems (AIS), the discipline’s preeminent scholarly organization, based on his astonishing 14 papers published in the discipline’s top two journals—Information Systems Research and Management Information Systems Quarterly—over the past three years.

Esther Uduehi
Assistant Professor of Marketing and International Business

Named one of the “Top 50 Undergraduate Professors of 2022” by Poets & Quants for her accessible and practical teaching of Marketing Concepts in Foster’s undergrad core curriculum and for co-founding The Tenure Project, a national initiative to increase the number of Black, Native and Latinx junior faculty who earn tenure at business schools through self-development mentoring.

Honored with the UW Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award for a career leading the Foster School Consulting and Business Development Center and nationwide Ascend partnership with JPMorgan Chase, which accelerate the growth of businesses owned by people of color, women, veterans and LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs.

Received a prestigious—and prodigious—Amazon Research Award, including unrestricted funds and Amazon Web Services credits, to support her work to understand the effectiveness of video advertising—and, more specifically, the new wave of video advertising known as “outstream.”

Co-authored, with former doctoral student Omid Rafieian (PhD 2020), the Marketing Science paper “Targeting and Privacy in Mobile Advertising” that received the Frank M. Bass Dissertation Paper Award from INFORMS Society for Marketing Science. Rafieian is now an assistant professor at Cornell Tech and the SC Johnson School of Management at Cornell University.

Received the INFORMS Service Science Best Paper Award for “Pooling Agents for Customer-Intensive Services” and also honorable mention for the INFORMS Behavioral Operations Management Best Paper Award for “Delay Information in Virtual Queues: A Large-Scale Field Experiment on a Major Ride-Sharing Platform.” Also appointed associate editor of the journal Manufacturing & Service Operations Management.
