The UW Foster School of Business Full-time MBA class of 2024 students have landed dream jobs at companies in Seattle and beyond. From gaming to banking and healthcare, Foster’s latest graduates will be applying their talents across many industries

Foster MBA graduates launch diverse career paths

Amelie Touroyan is starting as a technology consultant at EY. She says that the broad range of talents in her class benefited everyone in the program. “One thing that’s not often talked about is the value of community,” she says. “When you have an interest, a challenge, or the capacity to help another person, there’s a real give and take that happens. Having this collection of people together creates engagement and lifts everyone up.”

Mahekdeep Singh, who is taking a role as an investment banker at Wells Fargo, agrees and says his classmates will be part of his professional journey for years to come.   “For first-year MBA students, your network starts now. These are the people that are going to be helping you with your career as well as becoming your friends.”

Foster MBA graduates share their experiences in the program

Touroyan had previously interned at EY, an opportunity she parlayed into a job offer upon graduation. The same is true of Madeline Bach, whose internship at Philips also led to an offer for a full-time position.

Bach credits Foster’s career services department with helping her showcase her talents. “The career services team was really helpful,” she says. “They helped me prepare my resume, structuring it in such a way that the correct skills were highlighted. We did mock interviews. I ended up with two different offers, and I met with career management to talk through which one to take. I ended up at Philips, and I am very happy with my decision.”

The ROI of a Foster MBA

Opting to pause your career to commit to earning a Full-time MBA degree requires a certain calculus. Foster Full-time MBA students shared that while attending the program is rewarding on its own, they are cognizant of the return on investment necessary to justify such a life decision.

Upon graduation, Habib N’Garnim is starting as a senior strategy consultant at Accenture, where he too had interned. For him, the decision to earn an advanced degree was never in question.

“I always knew I wanted to get an MBA. Coming out of my undergraduate program that was always a dream of mine,” N’Garnim says. “Investing in higher education is investing in myself. I’m all about continuing to grow, and I knew an MBA would help me do that.”

Singh cited the importance of an MBA in his career growth trajectory. “Before the MBA program, I was an engineer. I was an individual contributor. I was very good at my job, but there are a lot of good engineers in the world.”

Prepared to lead

Transitioning to management necessitated skills that he honed during his time at Foster, including serving as president of the Venture Fellows program. “It’s like playing an individual sport versus a team sport,” Singh says. “You could be the fastest runner in the world. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that you could help a team achieve their best time on the track and win a championship. When you step into management, bringing everybody along and working together on a mission is very important. That’s where this program has helped tremendously.”

And while their formal education is coming to a close, these Foster students are excited to be transitioning to what they view as further opportunities to learn. N’Garnim cites cybersecurity as a field in which he sees such an opportunity.

“There’s a lot of room to grow, and it’s a field in which I think you have to be continuously learning. That’s the kind of career that I want.”
